This is our third Note on (Mister) Fred Rogersâ books. I read all three over the course of a week after falling in love with the man via the wonderful documentary Wonât You Be My Neighbor? This book, as per the sub-title, is all about âWisdom for Parents and Children from Mister Rogers.â Like the other books weâve featured, itâs a super quick-reading and equally inspiring collection of brief wisdom gems from our beloved neighbor. I loved it. And, Iâve been enjoying channeling Mister Rogersâ warmth and presence and wisdom in my role as a father to our two little Eâs: Emerson (6 as I type this) and Eleanor (2!). Big Ideas we explore include how to deal with disappointment (big and small!), growing (kids AND parents), the complexity of being a parent, setting limits and the power of saying, "I'm sorry."
"Children who hear that they are loved in many different ways are likely to find their own ways to say it to the people they loveâall through their lives.â"

Many Ways to Say I Love You
introduction
from the book
âMy wish for my children and parents alike is that they learn to find love and joy even amidst the worldâs and their own imperfections . . .â    Â
Â
Those of us who are parents certainly know about âimperfectionsââour own and our childrenâs! Parenting is a struggle. I was always touched when people would tell me how much theyâve learned from Fred thatâs helped them in their parenting, but I have a hunch that they thought he had some magical gift with children. He and I had to work at being good parents . . . just like everyone else.â
